If I have a motherboard that uses dual channel memory, then does it absolutely need 2 sticks or ram to function? Or will it still work with 1 stick? The motherboard in question is


under channel supported it says dual channel, but I don't know if that means it won't work with single channel or if dual channel inherently supports single

It supports single channel, but how dual channel and tri-channel RAM works, is essentially combining the speeds of two sticks of RAM. For example, if you have 2 sticks of 1333 Speed RAM in dual channel, they individually run at 666 MHz, but combined at a speed of 1333 MHz.
