I downloaded NewGen, unzip it, copied to Warcraft folder, updated jasshelper (All from here), disabled Rtc, and now it 's a mess.

So I think I should retry from the beginning: assuming that all I have is Warcraft III 1.24e (update from TFT -> 1.24d -> 1.24e). What other programs do I need to start learning WorldEditor
(with vJass or cJass, and 8MB map limit, and so on... :p)?

That's my link :D

Also, useful programs (without links - you can download them from the Hiveworkshop)

-ButtonManager
-Magos Model Editor
-WarCraft 3 Viewer
-JNGP (i suggest you to use my link - the experemental)

I think these programs are enough to manage everything, what you should need: icons, textures, models, mpq archives.

also you need zezula mpq editor and jass shop or jass craft for external code edition.

dont recommend to use builds from xgm since they include cjass this may possibly lead to problems.

also i suggest you to patch out GUI extensions from UMS5 since hashtables does not work with it.

So
For coding: JNGP, Jasscraft
For model/mpq/.... data: Zezular MPQ editor, Warcraft 3 Viewer, Magus Model Editor, Button Manager/ Photoshop

I would say JNGP, Notepad++, WC3 Viewer, Photoshop, Magos Model Editor, Ladik's MPQ Editor.

That covers just about everything you could need.

I choose Notepad++ over JassCraft and Jass Shop Pro because of its versatility.

I don't have much use for a model editor as I'm not a modeler, but I don't know about you. MPQ editors aren't much use generally unless you're doing something with protection.

Warcraft 3 Viewer and Photoshop go hand-in-hand very well.

I do not recommend any external text editor for JASS coding.
+1, why do you even need one? it even has TESH.

Focus on one aspect of mapping first and be good at it. Start at coding

Don't bother with modeling/texturing unless you really need them.
Hiveworkshop and others have a lot of free resources.

there is completely no reason to code from editor when you can write code from notepad like tools.

It's for GUI, which you will probably not be using if you are learning JASS?

This is inspiring me to work on my JASS tutorial

That's a matter of opinion. Let's not taint this thread with a silly argument when it's not meant to be a thread for that.

When I start a new project, I build it entirely in Notepad++ before trying to compile it in World Editor. After that, I do most of my edits in the editor and then consult Notepad++ when I need more features, like find/replace or indentation.

you code it wrong(C)

try to save map with standart editor with missing endloop statement and bah hours of work lost.

try to code with weak laptop.

read any book for c++ or similar real coding, it will suggest you to code notepad with first pages.

Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
