Making your own Hero vs having pre-set abilities

Would you rather be able to fully customize your Hero's abilities (like custom line wars), or be able to choose from X number of Heroes, each with 20 abilities that you can choose from (kinda like in D2)?

Preset. I like when heroes have identity.

However, 20 seems a bit much? I know you can't choose all 20, but I'd rather have 5-10 more cool/unique spells

I like the preset customization. Like, 3 heroes or however many, and they can each learn around 5 abilities out of their own unique pools of 10 abilities or whatever number like that.

Generally one massive, massive pool means less interaction between spells, and from my experience the abilities in the completely massive pools tend to be less well-made, but that can be changed I'm sure, but preset with some bounds still seems best.

I have always liked the idea to make your own heroes. As long as it is properly balanced, of course.
