Because it's so very hard?

Just extract the textures and open them, and you should be able to change the colors pretty quick using a Replace Color option or something similar. You'll have to assign the models a new texture name, but there are tools to do that easily, and then have a mesh imported for each model since you can't overlap them unfortunately. Unless you set it up to have multiple styles (I don't know how to do it but I've seen it done, forget what the actual name of it is).
