My mouse sometimes clicks twice when I only click once.

It's a wired mouse.

Any way to fix this?

Try using a different USB port. If that solves it, well... Problem solved. I'd suggest cleaning/not using that USB port though.
If that doesn't work, try using a different mouse. If the problem goes away, then it's your mouse. Try cleaning it if it's a ball-mouse, or simply replace it.

I doubt the problem lies any deeper than that.

90% of the time that it's just a problem with the mouse.. Just replace it
