I'm not entirely sure why... but all of a sudden, Windows Task Manager doesn't recognize that I'm logged in...

On he 'Users' tab there is nothing, and on the 'Processes' tab in the 'User Name' column the only one that has a value is the 'System Idle Process'. Nothing else has a value.

Any clue as to why?

What changes did you make to the system before this started happening?

I overclocked my video card and ran JKDefrag.

I would try defragging with the default windows utility and also temporairly setting the video card back to stock clocks.

I did just that before posting here. Didn't change anything.

Other problems:
  • Explorer.exe loads very slow. Like a 2 minute process after logging in.
  • Stop Message: 0x000000F4 ( 0x00000003, 0x86181c08, 0x86181d7c, 0x805fa1f0 )

I'm currently doing a virus scan and a sfc /scannow and mrt.

If nothing turns up, I'm just going to reformat and reinstall windows.

Also, is there a way to reinstall without the discs? I can't find them for the life of me, but I sent a request to my manufacture for replacements. Not sure when I'll get them, if I do...

I don't have the spare money to purchase a new OS. If I did I'd rather just get a new computer.

Now I found A disc...

"Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Including Service Pack 1a"

Now if I use that, can I upgrade Windows through the Microsoft website? Or did they discontinue that service?

Edit::
Noticed you don't have to buy Windows 7? Still in beta...

You can still update XP through the website.

Thanks, the scans didn't provide any information so that's what I'm going to do.

In comparison to XP, how much RAM does Windows 7 use?

I think it's about the same, but remember, Windows 7 will only work properly until about August.

Windows 7 is the looks of Vista, with the power and efficiency of XP. Plus some.

March 2010?

Is this something recent? Because it was supposed to be Aug 1 2009. It's being released long before March 2010 so I'm not sure why it would last beyond that point. Either that or I'm way behind in the news.

Edit, I checked and you're correct,
"Watch the calendar. The RC will expire on June 1, 2010. Starting on March 1, 2010, your PC will begin shutting down every two hours. Windows will notify you two weeks before the bi-hourly shutdowns start. To avoid interruption, you’ll need to install a non-expired version of Windows before March 1, 2010. You’ll also need to install the programs and data that you want to use. "http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/download.aspx

Well I just went through he incredibly painful process of reinstalling XP, the 2 service packs, and all my drivers.

Glad to say my computer feels and runs like new, but doesn't smell the new computer smell ;).

As for Windows 7, I'll just wait till it's released officially.

Thanks!
