Could you please explain what you want to tweak in an OS and that would require a compiled programming language? You definitely don't want to start out with C++: you choose a programming language based on what you want to do, not because it sounds cool. C++ for example wouldn't be best suited for web applications.if i learn C++, can i configure some of my pc's options?
To quote Bjarne Stroustrup himself: "C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, it blows away your whole leg."
There are other cool languages (as in: less obvious to spread yet more security holes due to bad coding) too: Visual Basic, ... [thinks] ... yes Visual Basic should be fine to start out with.
