Ronnie Lee Gardner was killed by firing squad just after midnight on Friday (local time) - the first time in 14 years a death sentence was carried out by firing squad in the US.

Beheading is most likely less painful than being executed by a firing squad, because when the blade comes down it severs your central nervous system at the neck, which means you don't really feel anything and you're dead already. However, if your death sentence is carried out by a firing squad, as they said in the article, they used shotguns and fired it at your chest. Now what that means is that you're gonna feel a lot of bullets entering your body and ouch ouch ouch first before you die.
And as the article also said, "he was pronounced dead after two minutes". Now imagine the agony.... ouch!
But, between firing squad and electric chair, I'd personally choose firing squad over electric chair, definitely.

Pain depends on your adrenaline. You'll probably have it pumping in your body, and while you're laying down in a pull of blood trying to make a broken body work, you have two choices, fight until you bleed out or crumple up.

I'm against the death plenty.

Honestly I am not for or against Capital Punishment, but I do give this man props for going old fashion.

For a start, shotguns aren't used in executions. Rifles are not shotguns, and they are two quite different weapons. For another, the article doesn't mention the word shotgun either.

I am not exactly in favour of the death penalty. I won't go into all the moral crap or anything though because that's something for the debates, but I will mention that for many prisoners a solid lifetime imprisoned with no chance of parole is probably a worse punishment than a quick(ish) death.
Also, death by firing squad is better than the alternative of a lethal injection. The use of certain drugs means that it is much easier to botch.

I agree that the death sentence in most cases is a better option than a life sentence without parole however I'm pretty sure they put you under anaesthesia before they give you the deadly injection so you don't feel it.

The cost of doing injection execution, due to all the court steps, is more costly than giving an average adult a life sentence. Now isn't that messed up?

They do, but it's not always easy to do that in the first place. Finding a suitable vein in a hardened drug user, for example, means poking around with needles endlessly until you find one.
Furthermore, the sleep inducing drug doesn't always work. When Timothy McVeigh was executed, he died with his eyes open. He would have known when the drug which collapsed his lungs was injected, and when the potassium chloride was injected to stop his heart.

I guess this is more a case of the medic needing to be 100% sure of his result rather than "Ok guys, I think you got him".

I still remember the stories where some people had axes in their shoulders, knives in their skulls, bullets near the hearts, etc; And they never felt pain.

Firing Squad > Lethal Injection.
3 parts of the injection, and even if they mess like .001% up of the measurements, or there are special circumstances with your body or something, you'll feel excruciating pain before you die.
