I have about 300 random music files on my hard drive right now, all of different quality ranging from 128 - 320 (441000Khz) and different formats.

If I were to convert them all to mp3 format
and make each of them 192 - 320 variable bit rate @ 41000KHz it would obviously make the files bigger... but would that make the quality any better? or would it actually decrease the quality ?

I'm using DBPoweramp Music Converter.

If it is encoded at lower settings than what you are converting to, you can't add quality once it has been removed. The only thing you would accomplish is to make a larger version of the same song you have now.

Yes, he's right converting sound files will usually only make them larger at no gain of quality.

I understand that they don't really gain quality and increase the size, but there is no risk of decresing the quality is there?

well, my mp3 player can only decode 192kbps and my mp3's range from 128 - 320kbps.

it would be nice if all my mp3's were of equal bit rate, and its an easy way to clear all the id3 tag info.
