Alright, try this: Make all the items that you purchase runes(with the item model). Shen the hero aquires the rune,
run a check for the items and if they arn't there, than just make another rune (with the item model) at the heroes location
otherwise the rune is used up and you can create the item.
I remember a friend using this method and it works exactly like the Dota one
