Getting laptop... help?

Okay i'm very UNKNOWLEDGEABLE when it comes to specs with a laptop and i need your help in two ways, recommendations and explanations. Firstoff, the most important part, i'm looking for the best possible 1k-ish laptop for gaming, i don't care about quality of graphics as long as it can run high end games without the graphics going out the window and frame rate lag. I want a comp around 1 grand hopefully 4 gigs of ram... but ya, just something strong enough to run games, but either way, i'm saving another 1k to custom build a beast of a laptop, hopefully one of my friends would help.

What is a processor really do?

what's MGHZ (mega hertz) really do???

Ram allows the computer to run more tasks more effeciently correct?

Graphics cards need memory why? To store graphics data???? And what makes a graphics card faster but not necessarily able to render better...


PS. Are macs really any good for gaming?? And/or is that deal where you get an ipod touch free with a macbook pro really worth it for a gamer?

Now for the explanation part:
What is a processor really do?

The (CPU) processor is the "brains" of the computer, so to speak. It ties into all components, performs the necessary arithmetic and logical operations required to execute software and control all the devices in the machine. There are quite a lot of things it does, but there's not enough space to describe them here in detail.

what's MGHZ (mega hertz) really do???

Hertz are a measure a frequency, basically the speed at which the processor and components in the computer operate. The higher the frequency, the faster the processor works, in general. (This is not always true; there are also a lot of other factors to consider when comparing computer performance, such as architecture, RAM, peripherals, cache, etc...)

RAM stores a copy of programs and data currently in use while the computer is running, mainly so the CPU can have access to such data more quickly. Having more RAM means more programs and data can be loaded and accessed quickly by the CPU.

The graphics card is a complex system unto itself. Games require significant amounts of high-speed memory to store 3D data such as textures, and to act as a frame buffer during rasterization, and many other things.
Similar to how RAM assists the CPU, having more video RAM on the graphics card allows more graphics information to be stored in a quickly-accessible place for the graphics processor (GPU) to use.
In addition to how much you have, the speed of the video RAM also matters (measured in Hertz as well). The faster the better.

PS. Are macs really any good for gaming?? And/or is that deal where you get an ipod touch free with a macbook pro really worth it for a gamer?

The hardware in Macs is often fast enough to play many types of games, however, not as many games support the normal Apple OSX operating system.

That seems like the best of the three, are the other two better, in your opinion which would you choose of the three? The others seem slower and uglier, and this one is actually only 720 apparantly the price is glitched. ??? Thanks for everything but it seems that i can't + rep u?

I would pick the first one, most likely, as it would offer the best performance of the three.

Yes, it is a bit better, but also more expensive and over your $1000 budget (assuming the prices listed on the page are accurate).

I prefer ASUS one. It has 2 graphic cards work together.
