Terrain Bonus Modifiers

What are they?
Terrain Bonus Modifiers are a way to give units bonus when in ditches or behind cover. This will add a lot to game play and strategy.

Is it hard?
No, not at all, with my tutorial you will learn to create your own!

Preparations

First create a unit based on the human farm. Set the values to:

Abilities: Locust
Ground: none
Model: none.mdl
Size: 0.10
Pathing: none
Collision Size: 0
Food Produced: 0

Copy and paste this newly created unit and rename them to:

Light Cover
Moderate Cover
Heavy Cover

Next create an ability based of Devotion Aurora. Set the values to:

Levels: 3
Hero Ability: False
Range: 100
Targets: Enemy

We will come back to this skill later on.

Now create 3 buffs called:

Light Cover
Moderate Cover
Heavy Cover

Go back to your newly created ability and change the buffs to:

Rank 1: Light Cover
Rank 2: Moderate Cover
Rank 3: Heavy Cover
Place the 3 custom units we created before on places where they are needed. The following is recommended:

Light Cover – Rocks, Trees, Shrubs, Low Height Changes, Other Small Doodads
Moderate Cover – Ditches, Trees, Rocks, Small Doodads
Heavy Cover – Holes, Ditches, Trenches, Cliff Edges, Buildings, Large Doodads

To the triggers!

Create this trigger:

Code:
Terrain Modifiers
    Events
        Time - Elapsed game time is 2.00 seconds
    Conditions
    Actions
        Unit Group - Pick every unit in (Units of type Low Cover) and do (Actions)
            Loop - Actions
                Unit - Add Cover  to (Picked unit)
        Unit Group - Pick every unit in (Units of type Moderate Cover) and do (Actions)
            Loop - Actions
                Unit - Add Cover  to (Picked unit)
                Unit - Increase level of Cover  for (Picked unit)
        Unit Group - Pick every unit in (Units of type Heavy Cover) and do (Actions)
            Loop - Actions
                Unit - Add Cover  to (Triggering unit)
                Unit - Increase level of Cover  for (Picked unit)
                Unit - Increase level of Cover  for (Picked unit)

You’re done! I hope this tutorial will help you create and design better maps.

-Slow Terrain
-Miss
-Range Increase
-Range Decrease
-Cloudy

I have been trying to figuer out how to give terrain bonus etc. this is very helpful. Can't wait for version 2!

The only reason I dislike this tutorial is because of a detail in your screenshot. I generally resent any map who's author signed it in a bluntly obvious way. I.e, on top of the multiboard. I makes it seem like you're desperate for credit, in my eyes. (But hey, I don't even sign maps, so I may be a little biased.)

It's somewhat useful, but it's one of those things you wouldn't think about unless someone told you about it. You don't really need it, but it's kinda neat when you see it.

I do that because someone once ripped one of my maps and put thier name on it. It wasn't exactly a rip but they used the same name... So people don't know who created which. His was really bad and rigged so I don't want to get a bad name on Battle.net...

That has abselutely no relevance to any intellegent topic. Please delete this post. I never -REP, but it's really hard to not -REP you...

By the way you should add:

Food Produced: 0

to the farms. :D Beside that, good job +REP.

Cool...but I recommend adding a trigger for removing the bonus...some people might not know this..example would be people new to triggering and GUI

I dont have any issues with the tutorial. Maybe a little light but overall quite good.

Would it really be much of a problem? It won't lag. Well on a 196 x 192 map with 8 players it don't.

Nice system, but you should really just have different versions of the ability, instead of using a trigger and setting ranks. Makes it much easier.

Well, you got some "To be added later" in the end, and its not really a long one.
Kinda falls a wee bit too short for my expectation of a tutorial.

The tutorial was made for Terrain Modifier Bonus, which gives units a bonus of defense.
