New Spell

Hello, im trying to make a new spell that is kind of like fan of blades but with poison damage over time as well. So i am not sure what road i should take and there are a few problems with each possibility. Should I modify fan of blades and make it so that it adds a buff, then create a trigger to add the poison damage buff to all those affected. Or should i make dummy units with the shadow strike ability and make them cast it on nearby units, and if so how do i make them cast it on all units around them and not overlap the spell. Please Help, thank you

I think that I would select the units based on range from the caster. I'm just gonna do this in short phases hand-made.

Make a dummy with poison on it's regular attack.
When someone starts the effect of Fan of Knives, select all units with X range of caster (X = Fan of Knives aoe).
For each unit from 1 to number of units in the picked group, create 1 PoisonDummy and order it to attack the picked unit.
Add a 1 seconds duration timer for the last created unit.

That should be sufficient, if you can decypher my runes of writing
