Anyways, the best editor to use whether you use GUI or JASS is NewGen. The only feature of WEU is those stupid custom functions they have which make the map un-openable in any other editor.
Why would anybody use the normal World Editor over JNGP? That said, I've just reminded myself that there are some problems with NewGen GUI regarding hashtables.
however, how long will the jassnewgen remain compatible with new patches? the world editor unlimited seemed to become incompatible a while back. it would be a shame to make a map and then all of a sudden not be able to play it when a new patch comes out.
Scubazoo, you can modify anything to be compatible with a new patch, you just need to find where the incompatibility comes from and then change it to be compatible. If a patch were to break JNGP, Pitzer (or is Pipedream in charge now?) would release an updated JNGP.
Anyways, if you are on a Mac or Linux, there are no custom editors you can use (yet) and I don't know if there will ever be any. However, there are a couple of custom editors for windows.
JNGP 1.5d — Includes Grimoire, TESH, and wehack.lua, and outdated Reinventing the Craft and JassHelper.
World Editor Unlimited — The 'other' custom editor. Unfortunately, the most reliable download is on wc3c.net, and their server is currently down, and the use of WEU is highly frowned upon.
My suggestion is to get JNGP, and get an updated JassHelper folder to replace the folder that comes with NewGen. Then you should integrate Reinventing the Craft in case you ever want to play an RtC game or develop your own, it's nice to have.
I do know this - xenforo dropped the ball by not keeping the vbulletin reputation comments as a feature. The loss of the Reputation comments data when we switched to Xenforo really was the death knell for the site when it came to all the users that left. I know I missed it so much and I got way less interested in the site when that feature was gone and I run the site.
I'm on a page about incorrect corrections, and spent the better part of like two hours trying to get someone to understand that -5^2 = -25, not 25, and then that post had comments get reposted because that group is self sustaining, and that person was in turn trying to explain what I just explained to them. And I'm taking that as a victory
