Tools for creating a simple game

Hi.

Story, you can skip reading this if you like:
I was bored so I decided to play som oldschool ownage, namely Pokemon. When I beat the first game I moved on to "the second generation", then third gen. However, I feel that most new pokemons are way too silly, and would like to see a "proper" pokemon game.
I realize that I most likely won't be the person to create such a game, but I would like to try at least.


To the point:
What tools would I need to create a game such as Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow? (Simple graphics, etc.)
I saw a stickied thread with a list of different programs here, but I'm not sure which one to choose to start testing.

EDIT: I believe Pokemon (Red/Blue/Yellow) are 2D.

I don't know any languages except html and JASS.
Some kind of GUI-based program would be nice.

Is it possible to do it in that Adobe AIR thingie? (I believe League of Legends is made in Adobe AIR?)

it only uses AIR for the PVP.net client (pre-game lobby, chat), not the actual game.

You could use C# and XNA, there are many, many tutorials for that. Also a very nice and simple engine. (By Microsoft)

There's Game Maker. I heard it's really simple to use.

Since you're making a game like Pokemon, you can use RPG Maker XP. If you know Ruby, you can customize it even further.

I've tried Game Maker, it is actually the one I'm using atm.
RPG Maker looks great. I'm gonna try it out and see what it can do. ^^

Game maker all the way.
If you are lazy there are even pokemon engines that people have made for game maker, which will make your work go a lot faster
