Is it possible to make the above spell ONLY hurt hostile enemies?

Never use "Unit - Damage Area". As you have noticed, you cannot properly filter the targets there and it may even create a problem for mac users as this function is not safe. Pick the units in a group (there is a "range around location" pick type) and you can add a condition function. Then use "Unit - Damage Target" to sequentially damage the picked units.

Also, choose appropriate thread titles that acquire the basic problem.

Just to say, the thread title is pretty much correct, because they must refer to the problem that afflicts the user.
As the problem w/ his spell was that it was "hurting his own units", the title isn't perfect, but it's not completly wrong either.
