The mining efficiency of drones is at its best at 2 per patch. 3 per patch is the maximum drones you can have mining - any more and there won't be any increase in mineral gathering rate.

Well since by the time you would have 60-70 drones you'll probably be on three bases, 2 per patch is best. Also you need that larvae for other things besides workers. For other races it's different because you can constantly make workers and units.
