Gfx @ £100

Hey yo,

Quick question to you who know much much more than I.

I have recently buggered my GeForce 8800 GT 512Mb (long story)

I paid around £100 for it, if i recall correctly.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend (link me) to a cheap(ish) gfx card
Feel free to suggest as cheap as you like.

Empire Total War is easily the most gfx intense game I play. I don't have CoD or Crysis or any of that jazz.

Don't worry about it being too futureproof either since most of the games I play are of the Civ/Foot Manager ilk.

In general: I think it's better to buy an older flagship than to buy a budget card. Personally, I'd go for the HD3870 if the budget is around a 100.

But why leave your 8800GT? It's a nice card...

Well if it's broken you could get yourself a 9800GT, it's basically the same as an 8800GT

Wish that was true

The default 9800GT has about the same memory, CPU speed and memory speed. Just some extra features, and it probably overclocks better.

Also, if you have more money to spend, take a look at the XFX GTX260 black edition. It outperforms the HD4870 and does little better than a stock GTX280, while costing around $100 less (€209 here in Holland).

Yep that's the default edition... But then again the default edition is around €50,- cheaper here

Btw have you made a choice yet? It seems to me you won't get far without a proper gfx card...
