Having trouble with a Specific Upgrade - Apply Defence Upgrade Bonus

Under upgrades, there is a particular upgrade known as Iron Plating which contains 'Apply Defence Upgrade Bonus'.
For some reason when I create a Custom version of this Upgrade and equip it to units, it does not work.

Any idea why? Anybody used this before?

You do know that the upgrade works with the unit-specific upgrade bonus? So if you have armor bonus to 0, the upgrade won't have effect.. And you have to put the upgrades in every unit it should upgrade.

I know how upgrades work.

It is added to the units, and when it is upgraded the little number next to the armor does increase. However the armor does not increase.
Is this perhaps intentionally or does this upgrade only work one some base units?

The actual bonus to armor the upgrade gives is dependant on the unit, you have to set the bonus for each unit in the object editor. Its the units "armor upgrade bonus" value.
Please check if it is set correctly for the correct unit and that the unit actually has the upgrade added to its techtree list.
