How do I further reduce the map's file size

I tried using the Map Optimizer and it could only reduce my map's file size by 15%. It went from ~2.9mb to 2.6 or 2.7mb. Im not really using many custom models yet the file size is still large. Ive seen some map like dota and the likes with many more custom models/skins/icons yet their sizes arent very large. Is there a way to further reduce the file size? A better Map Optimizer perhaps?

use vex, map optimiser and then tick most of the stuffs, the default settings for map optimizer doesnt really lock your map and remove stuffs, tick more stuffs and experiment with them and you will get your map to a smaller size

When using the map optmizer, if you do not have all the models stored on your computer then you should export them all and compress them, then use them as a source for the optimizer. (If you do not have all the models then it will make your map unplayable)

For images you might have to sacrifice a bit of quality to optimize size in the skins & icons, but icons are usually really small already. Sounds make sure they are necessary & mp3's. .wav's take up a lot more (like 10x). Map playable area usually takes the longest for the loading screen, so if you can have the map in a medium or small map instead of a large or epic map it will make the most difference :p Also custom loading screen takes up space, but wont affect loading time for map

You can....

What you can try is going through every trigger and seeing if you could cut it down a bit for example

Add 1+ points to strength
Add 1+ points to strength
Add 1+ points to strength
Add 1+ points to strength
Add 1+ points to strength

Change to

Add 5+ points to strength

Stuff like that
and look for a tutorial on memory leaks that will help alot :)

Do you have any custom sounds or music? Just a little can make your file size huge. Try using MDX Squisher. It will squish the size of your .mdx files (models). Keep in mind: the MDX squisher wont show the reduced file size. You will only be able to see the map size decrease.

Sound and images are what usually make huge. See if you can make them of a little lesser quality.

Try reducing the bit rates of the music files. Like for example, you have a 128-bit mp3 file imported into the map. Lower the bitrate to 64-bit and you'll save a lot of space. The quality reduction will be minimal. It's worth it to sacrifice sound quality for map size.

The killing sounds in DotA (killing spree, dominating, mega kill, etc...) are all only 16-bit rate files. Trust me, you'll never notice the difference in game.

The same goes with icons. You'll never notice the quality difference in game. And try to convert all of your custom icons into .blp format, as they compress better than .tga format, as they retain most of the quality yet reduce map size.

Hope it helps <3
