How do you put a save and load in the game?

Hi I have been trying to make an ORPG and I've noticed in most games they have a -save and -load option, so they can load and save their heroes. This is usually given in a code that has XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX for an example, which then allows you to have your champion and then reload him the next time you play without starting over again. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how to do the triggers? Please =D

Note: I want something like they have in Twilight's Eve Orpg
