Question about skinning auras

Hello everyone. I have a question that is probably quite simple for all of you,
I'd like to create a new aura skin, replacing "vampiric aura"

The problem is, the original Aura has no place in my new one, not what so ever.

Is there any way I could remove the original purple aura, and just put my new one in over it in the .tga image?

Just painting black over it and pasting my image in doesn't work out to well

Did you use a model editor? Magos' one should do just fine for your needs.
