Swedish Meatball Noodle Bake

This Swedish Meatball Noodle Bake recipe makes a hearty meal with meatballs smothered in a creamy sauce and baked with noodles.

Ingredients:

Meatballs:

  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 onion, grated
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp Kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • Large bowl
  • Large skillet
Casserole:
  • 2 1/2 cups egg noodles
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1-pint heavy cream
  • 1 1/2 cup Swiss cheese, grated
  • Fresh parsley, chopped, for serving
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Large pot for boiling
  • 9 x 13-inch baking dish
Directions:
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees and grease the 9 x 13-inch baking dish
  • Place the beef, bread crumbs, egg, onion, nutmeg, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in the large bowl and mix until just combined
  • Scoop and roll 1 1/2 Tablespoons of the mixture into a ball and repeat with the remaining mixture
  • In the large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat
  • Add the meatballs to the skillet and cook until all sides are browned
  • Transfer the meatballs to a plate and set aside
  • Cook the noodles in a large pot of salted boiling water for two minutes less than the package directions
  • Add the broth, heavy cream, and Worcestershire sauce to the now-empty skillet and scrape up any browned bits on the bottom of the pan
  • Allow the mixture to simmer for about 10 minutes until a little thickened
  • Season with salt and pepper and take the skillet off the heat.
  • Add the pasta to the prepared baking dish and top it with the meatballs
  • Over the pasta and meatballs, evenly pour the sauce and sprinkle with cheese
  • Place casserole in the preheated oven and bake for about 20 minutes or until the cheese has melted and is bubbly
  • Remove casserole from the oven and allow it to sit for about 5 minutes before serving
Enjoy!
