How do you make it so the editor lets you type in negative values?

Go to File -> Preferences -> General -> Check the box that says "Allow negative real values in the Object Editor"

I think if you hold Shift while you double click a value, it'll allow you to use negative real values.

It should though.
You need to hold it before opening the value dialog.

It actually turns off all and any sanity checks (AFAIK)... to be used with care.

Double-clicking works for me I usually use my mouse for all of that... It also turns string box things (That allow multiple strings, not sure what they are called) into a list:

Hero proper names:
   Bob
   Jack
   Joe

Would turn into:

Bob,Jack,Joe

Oh well, changing the preference is more convenient anyway.
I needed it for a hero aura that's like Unholy Aura, but decreases life regeneration rate for enemies.

Shift-edit is in fact "input raw data mode", and it allows some wierd effects (but its extremely useful, i think)

Bnet map < 4 MB
Campaign < infinity
Single Player< infinity

There is no limit on single-player maps and campaigns.
