Double clicking on a map (depending on settings) will either bring up Warcraft III or World Editor.
In both instances it will not bring up the map though.

> I don't believe there's a way to auto-open them.

That's what happens though on about 99.98% of all installations.
The other two are, it seems, yours and his.

You could try to right-click a map, "open with" (or "open with" and "choose default"),
then find the editor and save that.
With any luck that fixes it.

I have my maps set to open with World Editor.
And even though I double click them it still just opens the editor, and not the map itself.

It doesn't work with Open with because WE requires the "-loadfile" argument before the filename.
With any luck, this .reg file will fix it. Just double click on it, then Yes and OK.
Note that if your Warcraft III isn't installed in C:\Program Files\Warcraft III you'll need to modify the file a bit before applying it. Just open it in notepad, press Ctrl+H, in Find what enter "C:\\Program Files\\Warcraft III" and in Replace with your new path (make sure you use double backslashes \\ as opposed to single \), then click on Replace All.
I also recommend backing up your registry before applying just in case.

I'd much prefer to just open WE then open the file :p .
[del]Seems[/del] Is much safer then registry editing and such too.

ok I fixed it
I had to create an entry in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\WorldEdit.ScenarioEx\shell\open\command
with C:\Games\warcraft III\worldedit.exe -loadfile "%1"

I copied that from my old PC on which it did work and now it works too :)

ty for all the help
+rep to sfilip although I didnt use his file/tip but its the same I did :)
