How to add Hero Glow
without modeling?
by supertoinkz (THW) or Gwafu (TheHelper)

Description: First of all, I saw many questions and request about adding hero glow on models. They didn't know there IS a SIMPLE way to make any unit have hero glow. Well, I can't teach you how to add dissipate because there are no specific evidences that you can add dissipate animations without modelling :p.

Needed:
+World Editor: Duh?
+Hero Glow by assasin lord
+Simple WE knowledge so I can make this tutorial without providing too many screenshots

Getting Started

First of all, you need to open World Editor (either the classic, UMSWE, or WEunlimited) then open Import Manager and import the model provided in the Needed section (If you dont know how to import it, there is a tutorial on every model here in the hive).

Open Object Editor and click the ability tab. Create a custom ability base on the Slow Aura (Tornado). Change this:
Data - Movement Speed Factor : 0
Stats - Area of Effect: 1 xD
Stats - Buff : None
Art - Target : (The previous model I provide)

Now give it to any unit you want to become a hero and click test..... tada!!!
You had a new hero!

Tips and Tricks
You can change the model (Art - Target) and experiment with it, you can make absolutely epic ingame-only models with this

So.. This teaches me how to import a model?

There's nothing special about that. People just need to find the right model.

This still requires modeling, well, for the person who MADE the models.

Err. Excuse me, but this is awesome. I needed this pretty badly. I'd appreciate it if the model was uploaded here, with a link to the original source, in case it goes down.

It is interesting to note this:
"Im terrible sorry but in later wc3 version this model wont work as I planned, apperently teamcolored attatchments wont change color anymore so this model is more or less f***ed, im planning on makeing a full series of glows for eatch color but im not sure that i would get approwed here so don't hope to much, once again im sorry."

The knowledge thing here is using the tornado aura or the like to attach the glow gets the player colour correct. So it seems using [LJASS]AddSpecialEffectTarget[/LJASS] would fail.

Good tut. Thanks. :D

PS. You could also cover adding a glow to the weapon, perhaps...

I'd say you're being sarcastic...

There is already a premodel on the WE - you just need to find it.

The only situation in which this is actually useful is if you didn't know that a model like that existed.
Once you find a model like that yourself, you'll already know what to do yourself.

I have searched for a long time for this model. Failing to find it, I made it myself. Failing to make it work (it was always black), because of the AddSpecialEffectTarget thing not showing player colours, I gave up. So I don't know what you make of that. I found it very useful information (both the link and how to add a player coloured attachment).

I have a hand glow model, I upload it in case someone want to use :D
also I upload my origin glow model, I don't know if it's better than the above model or not, but well, it is actually glowing :D

p.s: and good find with the Slow Aura, I use Item Armor Bonus to attach theses glow but the color of the glow is reverted to Red every time the hero got transformed (Hex, Metamorphosis,... ) it's annoying

Wow, something which J4L didn't know about :p

I would say this is too short to be approved as a tutorial, but what do I know

Fine; The model and a sentence on how to import it would suffice.

> I have searched for a long time for this model. Failing to find it... ...So I don't know what you make of that
I don't know what to make of it. I've seen at least two of these models around on the internet.

Is there a better way to capture a small piece of information on this forum so that people can look it up and learn to do something?

If it was submitted as a model, I would understand, I suppose (with information on how to use it).

I'd recently been thinking about suggesting a new resource type: "Tips" or "Hints", which would be small but useful bits of information that don't warrant a full tutorial - for example, this thread, or this graveyarded thread (although I'd probably expect it to be rewritten to generalize the turn-off-trigger turn-on-trigger method).

Don't understand what it means here but the tutorial should at least post the way to reset the teamcolor. Don't think this simple tutorial is available here in TH but it's already available in other sites (and they're more complete..).

Ironically, I couldn't find anything :p. Some searches require me to be a member, which I chose to ignore... While in TH, there should be some threads that talk about this, but I can't seem to find :p. I hope someone would be kind enough to provide the link.

Anyway, to reset color, just set the unit to its team color again. As simple as that.

Use:
Code:
Unit - Change color of (Triggering unit) to color of (Owner of (Triggering unit))
Something like that. Not sure about the 'not worked as planned' thing though. It could be a problem in the new patch which I'm not aware of.

Edit:
What I did was just use the 'A unit enters the map', check if the unit has the glow ability (Sphere is usually used here, or any item abilities without icon) and then change the colour. However, the colour will bug again when the unit is revived or subjected to certain spells. So, it's a good idea to use periodic trigger to set the colour. Every 2-5 seconds would suffice.
