A spell with a casting time

Im looking for a way to give a spell a "casting time" persay.

For example, I want my mage to channel for 2 seconds and then cast slow.

couldn't you create a custom spell that is a clone of the spell you want, change the duration of that spell to 2 seconds, and then write a trigger that when that spell has finished casting, wait 2 seconds, and then have the other spell cast?
