Attaching an image to a unit

Allright, so what I'm trying to do here is to show an image over a unit's head. So far, so good, I made an image with a trigger allright... the thing is, when we're seeing it from an angle, we don't see it the same way as when we look at it from the top ; there is perspective.

Now, what I'd like to do is make the image always "face" the camera, just like the Inner Fire model. For instance, if you ever play broken alliances, units that have enough experience will have an insignia-like icon over their head. I kind of figured I'd need a model with attachments points to do that. The thing is, I can't just edit the textures, for Inner Fire tints the used texture orange (or so it seems). Most similar models have an animation of some sort.

Being a complete noob at model editing & such, I ain't even sure what tools to use. I did see a couple tutorials on here, but half the download links are broken or a file is missing or invalid.
