I'm getting extremely tired of reading things like "I am not quite sure what this does" in videos and posts made by reputable sources regarding the D3 beta!!! Really, there is no excuse for being confused about the features of D3 if you are working on a press site! It makes me upset considering fansites and press actually make money from the work that they do. I'm going to attempt to answer things that reputable sources miss as they come up.
BANNER SYSTEM
This latest post on Diablo Fans is where I am going to start.
Banner System
The banner is placeable in-game so that you can mark a safe location that your friends can port to when using the "portkey" feature. If the banner is not down, your friend ports to your character location; If it is down, they will port to the banner location--not far from where you are at the moment since they only last a minute or so at current. This offers a safety net in case you are deep in trouble and want to make sure your friend doesn't port into his death. This is a courteously option placed by Blizzard and can see use especially in hardcore games where death is detrimental to one's mental health.
SHARED STASH
There has also been some confusion about the class selection drop-down menu in the shared stash.
To clarify this, it will change the look of the item in the stash to show what it will look like to each character. Each item in D3 has a different icon for each class. This drop-down will firstly change the icons. As of beta, it doesn't appear (to my knowledge) that it will cross out items that are unavailable for use by the class chosen, but I'm sure it will in the finished game if not already.
