A depressed zoo visitor was savaged by a Bengal tiger after he threw himself into its enclosure offering himself as "food".
In an online post, Yang Jinhai claimed it was depressing it was to see the "noble and maginifcant tigers" at southwest Chengdu zoo unable to follow their natural instincts to hunt and kill.
The 27-year-old then went to the zoo to "sacrifice" himself in support of the white tigers.
One horrified witness said: "He climbed up the outside of the cage and jumped inside.
"But instead of pouncing on him straight away, the tigers seemed more nervous than anything else and the female ran off."
But Yang persisted and tried to antagonise the tigers by shouting and pulling faces at them before one eventually pounced and mauled him.
The witness said: "Eventually he was attacked by the male where he was scratched and bitten before he was rescued by the zoo keepers who fired a tranquiliser dart at the male tiger."
It was later discovered that Yang had become depressed over a series of jobs he had briefly held down because they did not satisfy him.
According to his family, he has been taken to a home where he is receiving psychiatric counselling.
Idiot. Should have gone to the wild animals; feeding captive ones is a waste of perfectly good food.
