I forgot the name of the popup blocker i had, but it made a machine gun noise everytime it blocked a popup :) . For antivirus i would say AVG. AdAware for tracking cookies.

Google Toolbar + Firefox is what I'm running. I never get popups, and I surf around all over the place.

You can also use Adblock to get rid of popups. Although that's not it's main purpose you can easily get rid of flash and JavaScripts responcible for this.

I hate toolbars, you can change popup options in firefox and do stuff like make it so windows cant resize themselves too... Dont need google for that!

But for freeware, antivirus you got:

Lavasoft, Ad-Aware SE Personal
AVG Free (Anti-Virus, Anti-spyware, and "rootkit" apparently, i just have AntiVirus)
Im also testing out this new one Spyware Doctor, it was recommended by google and it seems OK

And yeah, adblock is awesome! Once you learn a few tricks you can block a root advertisement site and ALL their advertisments will dissapear :D
