IDE to USB connecting failure (external harddrive isn't recognized by win xp)

Windows doesn't recognize my "external" hard drive (from my old pc, for which I don't have a monitor right now...).

I plug in the IDE cable to the hard drive, then the electricity, and then to USB, but windows keep saying it doesn't recognize it... apparently I can't boot from it either lol

What should I do? Also, the jumper should be on which setting? I have eight pins (blank, cs, ma, sl). I tried with all three of them I think...

Thanks for help

Google some drivers for it, preferably the IDE to USB bridge.. or the other way around..

Where could I find such a thing? As far as I discovered, even windows ME has drivers for things like that without installing stuff...

Yeah but the cable doesn't have the name of the manufacturer on it anywhere...

EDIT: nevermind, found the problem. AVG Firewall was blocking the hard drive. And I had to set the hard drive to master as well. Now it works, for most part, and sometimes... weird. Thanks anyway
