Anyone has eBooks about setting a server?

I have Win7 now, do I need to install Window Server (2003 or 2008)?

Also I want a computer to run as a "workstation", what do I need?

and advices about upgrade, maintenance and security of the website

please tell me if you need any info.
thanks in advance :)

I'm searching google for these problems but I don't get many decent results :(

You can run a webserver on Windows 7, but there are some other things that you're going to have to worry about with firewalls and so on. I would recommend looking here:

http://www.wampserver.com/en/

WAMP provides you the three basic programs for running a webserver:

Apache
MySQL
PHP

Apache is the webserver itself, MySQL is the database software for things like forums, and PHP is a server-side scripting language that is very common these days.
Hopefully that should get you started - I believe there are some tutorials on that site that can help you.

I have WAMP installed and have "online" turned on.

I follow: How to set up a personal home web server and How to access a home server behind a firewall.

and made a setup in my router, as for my router: "port forwarding" is "Virtual Server" in "NAT" (Network Address Translation), I think. The setup are:

- Application: HTTP_Server (this is just a name)
- Protocol: ALL (include TCP and UDP)
- Start Port Number: 80
- End Port Number: 80
- Local IP Address: 192.168.1.10 (this is the ip address of my computer and it's static)

But when I use a browser to go to my IP address: it's not WAMP but my router's admin site instead.

I also go to Window Firewall and add "Inbound Rule" and "Outbound Rule" to allow connection through port 80.

Have I missed anything? :(

You can run a webserver on Windows 7, but there are some other things that you're going to have to worry about with firewalls and so on.

can you tell me more about the "other things"?

EDIT: it works now for people from different network.
people from the same network as me still access the router's admin site.

Try going to localhost, rather than your IP.
