What is up with North Korea? How come they don't let you in or out?

And why is it so strict or something?

Shh... Keep it quiet or they will find out that we know they are keeping the civilians almost prisoned.

Yeah, North Korea is a weird place. Some news reporter smuggled his camera there and took some shots. (It's not allowed. You could lose your head or camera.)

Ok, so, nearing the end of WWII, the USSR hit up the Korean peninsula at the same time as we did. A communist regime was set up in the North. Subsequently, the Korean War happened and the borders became as they are now. Because of the level of the hostilities, North Korea needed a solid military regime in place. Unfortunately, when a regime gets tough enough it often goes over the edge and stifles change. The Russians destalinized after Stalin died and threw out communism in 1991, subsequently ****ing them up with too much free market until Putin got things under control (same thing happened when they removed price controls in France after the radical stage of the revolution). The Chinese have kept their regime but the regime has been progressing steadily away from their old systems for a long time. North Korea, however, is too tightly locked in and small to loosen up, so nothing has happened. They're still a military stronghold where nothing goes in and out. It's a self-supporting system where the purpose of the regime is to continue, and arguably it works pretty well for that purpose. It just screws over everyone in the process.

You should look up the smuggled video on youtube if it has it. The scenes are amazing... It's like something out of a fiction book. Wild, man.

They don't usually let people in because they don't want their civilians to realize that their lives suck.

They don't let people out because then they can go tell everyone else how much it sucks there.

And if they do let you out, they take all of your shit that you got while you were there so you have no proof about how bad it sucks there.

Look up a satellite picture of power usage over that area. It goes from being all bright over S. Korea to dead at the DMZ.

The people nearest to the DMZ must be wondering what is that bright spot over the horizon.

That's a cool map. I never thought it would suck THAT much to live there.

You can tell how shitty a place is to live by the amount of electricity the people? Personally I think China is a pretty shit place to live in but that has lots of shiny dots.

More like he knew it sucked, but when it turned out there isn't even electricity, less than in the China farmsides, it HAS to suck even more.
