learning about making game models

i am trying to figure out how to create model files for different heroes and units

i guess what i am asking is:
is there any good programs to make them?
does anyone know any tutorials that are great for beginners?
and how do i import them into the world editor do i just use import manager?

The two programs should be enough?

3DS Max. (Or GMax if you can't afford it)
WC3 Viewer.

A tutorial on how to import models.

A tutorial on how to edit models.

A tutorial on how to make models in 3DS Max (or GMax)

When you have looked at those you should have a basic understanding of how to model.
Then just play around, with 3DS Max. (or GMax)

I have this GMax stuff and test and it's d@mn hard to use! Well, I don't create and edit models though, cuz I don't wan't to learn how since it has uber high size!.

Actually GMax is very easy to use if you know how to extrude the polygons.
