Memory card is out of memory!

i have a problem with my SanDisk memory card. its running out of memory even if i only got few files saved in it. i have a 512 MB memory card and i only used 310 MB. i was shocked when i saw the free space, its 28 MB. is my memory card infected with a virus? pls help. thanks.

That's probably space taken up by the formatting.
For example, my flash drive is rated at 16GB, however, when you look at it, it claims the maximum space it slightly above 15 or so. I don't think there's anything really wrong with it.

i do some formatting with my card. .. how can it affect my card? it has taken all the space in my memory card. i suppose to have 100+ MB left but i only got 28 MB.

you could try reformatting it, you may have bad sectors that just dont work anymore on it, however as ghan said the card wont ever reach what it was marketed with regardless of what you do..
