Modeling failure

Alright I'm trying to import models into a map of mine which desperately needs them. I am using winMPQ and nothing i do seems to work. Ive looked over this guide 20 times now and so far everything i do isnt working. Im trying to import this model and i am using all the correct paths. I am using RoC, (dont ask me to buy tft, im too poor :p) does anybody have a different guide or alternative?

the guide on the hive looks pretty thorough.

Did you remember to close the editor, and open it again after importing?

I have no idea whether having RoC/tft matters or not. If you're unlucky the model uses some texture that is only found in tft. If that is the case, you'll need to import that texture as well

um i was told to not have the editor open while importing.
:banghead:

How can you import anything without the editor open?

Anyway, I found some textures that are only found in tft. I've attached them to this post. Give them the following paths:
Code:
Textures\HumanDestroyerShip.blp
Textures\WaterWake3.blp

Quick question,

after im done importing i close the edior without saving because
when i save i have to reimport everything because it gets deleted right?

so importing models into my map should be the very last thing i do?

You have to have TFT to import models, I believe.

Tried it again, no luck

Another thing i noticed why does it say

"Could not load file: Battleship3.mdl
Could not load file: Battleship3.mdl"

it says it twice. Why does it say mdl, isnt it supposed to be an mdx...

im totally clueless btw. I'll try it again.

the .mdx is converted to .mdl in the map. That is working exactly as it should. The reason you get failure is because some of the textures either have the wrong path, or are not recognized because they were not there when you started the world editor.

Do this:
  • Import model/textures
  • Make sure they have the correct paths
  • Save map
  • Exit world editor
  • Start world editor
  • Open map

If the model/textures had the right path's, the model should work now.

Edit: Alternative to closing the world editor
Changing the model+texture quality in preferences will make the world editor go through all models and textures again. Even newly imported.

o.o i suck at this, alright lets do it again.

I restarted both the winMPQ and editor and both are currently running

1) I opened my w3m into winMPQ and did the following in this order i added:
1a) boat.blp to path "Doodads\Northrend\Water\Battleship\Boat.blp"
1b) HumanDestroyerShip.blp to path "Textures\HumanDestroyerShip.blp"
1c) WaterWake3 to path "Textures\WaterWake3.blp"
1d) Battleship3.mdx with nothing as path name

2) Set model file for custom unit to "Battleship3.mdx"
3) Saved my w3m and exited it leaving winMPQ open
4) Opened it back up and got the same message with a checkered green box
as the model

Ok, I see importing to a RoC map is very different from importing to a tft map. I've been assuming that you had an import editor in your world editor. Scratch what I've said earlier.

----------------------------------
You have probably tried this before, but here goes. If it doesn't work, I do not have the knowledge to help you.

Start with a only winMPQ open. Keep the world editor closed (just as you said earlier.

Follow your own step 1

4) open map

Right, well i did that, and saved it. And for some reason the map isnt opening in editor. it displays

"unabe to load C:\users\desktop\blablabla"
-Main map file could not be opened

Im jus coming to the conclusion that the computer hates me

Another interesting thing i noticed is that when the map opened,
it looks like some of the units in the unit editor didnt load because all of
a sudden, it shows a "? doodad?" where the icon should be.
