I am equally confused.
UserX, it doesn't look like your memory stick is healthy. I am sure that it will be a 256mb stick, and as such it does not fill me with confidence that it only registers as 248mb !
Perhaps it is worth you borrowing a stick of DDR memory off a friend (or buy one as they are fairly cheap still).
