And, to try to inject some logic here, I think that additional emoticons should have some basis in need.

What is the basic purpose of an emoticon? To convey an emotion in the way that text cannot. Are they always used for this purpose? Of course not. But adding one should at least come from a need to commonly express that emotion, in my opinion.

It is also my opinion that we do not NEED any more of these.
I think we do quite well with the ones we have.
