I don't know about exact wording, but as far as layout goes, I like tooltips that are clear, concise, and look good. Here's an example:

Ranger

Rangers are agile warriors who excel at ranged combat and fighting in wilderness areas. (A brief description)

Base hit points: 500 (optional)
Base mana: 300 (optional)

Skills: Ensare, Critical Strike, Camouflage (list of the abilities the unit has)

Each heading should have a unique color, and the descriptions all in white text. Just some ideas. :thup:

Title in a good colour, line break then description.

Gnoll
Aggressive monster with a low intelligence. Brutal and does hard damage.

List of abilities is good. HP and MP is unnecessary.

Should abilities have a short desc. As the abilities are important to these units.

I thought about that. On the one hand, it gives greater information to the player, which is always good, but at the same time it makes the tooltips longer, which is not always a good thing. If you can keep the description to a short one-liner, then I'd say yes, do it. Using my earlier example:

Ranger

Rangers are agile warriors who excel at ranged combat and fighting in wilderness areas. (A brief description)

Skills:
Ensare - Traps a target unit in ropes, removing their ability to move for several seconds
Critical Strike - (Passive) Gives a 15% chance to deal double damage on each attack
Camouflage - Allows the Ranger to go invisible for a short time. If s/he attacks to break camouflage, h/she will deal bonus damage

I like it when people don't have ... tool tip errors.

I think just about any tooltip layout is fine as long as it's correct, and you use a consistent layout.

Abilities for me generally look like this.
Code:
[color=red]Bloodlust[/color]
Increases the power of a unit, raising attack power.
[color=lightblue]Level 1:[/color] +30 Damage
[color=lightblue]Level 2:[/color] +45 Damage
[color=lightblue]Level 3:[/color] +50 Damage
[color=lightblue]Cooldown:[/color] 60 seconds

High-Priest 450gold

Support caster focused in non-combat spells.

Role: Dispel and Healing.

Abilities:
Dispel - Removes buffs from ALL units in target area and damages summoned units.
Rejuvination - Heals target units health over time.

How does that work out?

I put a little detail in as these units are an important choice as they cost a lot and are needed in specific situations. So you need to know EXACTLY what each one does.
