Variables in tooltips

Does anyone know if it is possible to display a variable(int,string,etc) in a tooltip to make it more dynamic? So instead of making an ability that needs 5 levels I can make one and have its damage be based off a variable that can be manipulated by acquiring items and such.

I was just wondering the same thing for displaying variables in text messages.
