Visual Basic . NET Free?

I find this book on Visual Basic. NET, and I have really gotten into it, however when I went to look for a free version I went to Microsoft.com (or w/e) and found a version which turned out to be only a trial. Does anyone know a place where I could find a free version of Visual Basic? (Preferably NET, but I was using an updated edition and it was more or less the same thing.)

It's the express edition, but it won't expire as far as I know.

Ummm, there is no free version of .NET - anything like that would be pirated and we do not support that here.

The Helper: Microsoft provides a free version of many of their products. Maybe they are limited? That does not matter to me anyways, I am just playing around learning the basics. Thanks!

Ummm, there is no free version of .NET - anything like that would be pirated and we do not support that here.

I'm pretty sure there is a lite version that is free.

Then how do I have free compilers and .NET from microsofts website?
Go to the microsoft website and search for the visual studio express editions and download the visual basic version

Yeah, you have to register, but once you do, I just realized I actually have the Express Edition still on my computer from about a year and a half ago, so you should continue to be able to use it.

And TH, that was actually the link I had posted above. It just gave links to all the express editions, not just the Visual Basic one.

IINM, the Express edition allows you to do about anything as the full version, but you can't compile it into a .exe.
