What are the limitations of private servers?

What is truly possible on a private server? How much of the game aspects can you actually change with medium knowledge of how one works?

I saw some youtube videos about having illidan models with insant spam attacks & it got me excited & wondering what are the limitations of a private server as far as gameplay

You could create your own class if you were willing to put in the time and effort. You could also create your own zones and everything. PRetty much anything that you can think of (that isnt totally rediculous) could be done, as long as you know how and have the proper tools.

Maybe interesting for people who are interested "how it works" (although they aren't necessarily the same as the real servers) but seems even more pointless than playing the real game, and not supported here.
