Why does map size have to be a multiple of 32?

I did some searching for the answer but couldn't find it. Just curious, because it's...rather limiting, haha. And...is there any way around this? Sometimes I want to increase the size of a map but only a little bit, not to the next multiple of 32...

you can increase it by 32 and black out the bits you dont need with map bounds.

Still wondering though, if anyone happens to know, why the limitation exists.

Has to do with the cells Warcraft 3 uses for its pathing and whatnot.
