PLEASE tell me if you like how this is going. I'm having a very hard time finding sounds for my lead. If you know any good ones please share. :)

You really need to add me on Msn.

Your lead sounds a little off in the fine tuning with some of the other instruments.

The pad that plays during the beat solo bit could use some reverb and a soft phase or somethign so its less static.

Guitar sound needs a bit of a volume boost and super subtle reverb too. (reverb tends to make everything sound better).

On your hihat thats repeating very quickly, add some feint volume dynamics.

The synth lead is nearly sexy, but its soft attack (think ADSR attack) envelope here makes it a bit weaker for holding a melody.

Drums overall work really nicely, instrument selection overall is quite strong, writing is pretty decent, there were only like one or two spots I thought could use a slight change, but I'll wait for a further progress report to suggest that.

More like I need to get one. :p

Yeah it's a detuned saw lead. I have changed it quite a bit however and my newer version sounds much clearer.

Do you mean the string pad?

I like keeping it a bit farther back in the mix because it is extremely repetative. Also I don't want to crowd the mix with tons of reverb just yet. I'll do more of that come mastering time.

Do you mean the shaker or the offbeat hihat? I have some more variations in my current version that I really need to render. :p

You're gonna have to fill me in on what ADSR is. :p The new lead has a heavier attack now because it's two guitars layered with a buch better heavily modified acid arp (that I took the arp out of, so it doesn't even sound like acid anymore :p). I'll see if i can render it tonight. I did do a few more melodic changes since this render though most of them were in the chorus section.

Overall I think I need to work on the hook melody more to make it more enticing. Other than that one of my biggest problems is getting the snare to cut through the mix clearly without having to shoot up the dB's.

ADSR (Attack decay sustain release) envelopes are everywhere. Most commonly volume and filters of sorts. Very common/useful/basic tool for shaping the nature of a sound.

Heres a screen shot of a pretty basic setup for mixing a snare in. I've obviously set mine up in a manner that its not competing with other instruments, but this should generally be what the foundation looks like. The reverb being optional, though I'm really big on tossing them everywhere.

Toss up your song later and I'll certainly have a go over it again.

Well I can tell you right now your snare is much different just from your eq. :p

And now I feel dumb about the ASDR. :p

I had a feeling there would be an "Ohhhh those envelopes" comment. :p

The snare is a weirdish sound, but you'll notice on the parametric EQ the freq bands cover a span of range, which is typical of snares.

Makes no difference.

I read a discussion on AC4U and they were talking like it did. Guess its something to research but it makes sense that it would apply the effects top to bottom.

Order will matter pending on the effects, with compression and EQ, probably better to EQ first then compress. Might be easier on the cpu that way. As for how it sounds and effects the mix, I personally found the difference to be so minimal, that focusing on the order of those above likely an array of other larger mix problems is just tunnel visioning.

Ultimately if it sounds good, then its done right. :p
