So, no one kept up?

Some pretty sweet things shown there.

My friend luckily got to go there at Vegas for a week, shoot some video there, win some free goodies).

Nope. That's like E3 only more general isn't it?

As a military member, I am unusually familiar and at home being spoken to about acronyms I don't know/understand.

However, someone clue the rest of us in, hmm?

It appears to be the Consumer Electronics Association's expo. So, like I said, similar to E3 only for general electronics. And doesn't appear to be nearly as cool. The website sucked.

I kept up a little bit, there were a few cool things, nothing that really stood out as revolutionary, at least that I saw, there was a cool screen that was paper thin, the downside was all of the hardware stuff was connected to it via two blatantly ugly cables

Yes, but E3 is not what it used to be.
CES has its perks I think because it's more open, more "consumer" friendly eh? I mean, E3 being not open to the public and industry only. CES, while not open to the general public, has a more loose industry sense, so it's cool if you actually do get to go (like my friend did).

The Oculus Rift was interesting, not my favorite thing there, but still something neat. The TVs and screens, like the paper thin one you said, were cool, especially with the new 4K resolution.

How about the Razor Edge for gamers?

There's also the Project Shield for gaming but that doesn't really excite me too much.

Most of the electronics that I'm interested in are usually broadcasted at E3, and I think it's a way bigger event isn't it? Point being, the CES, from what I understand, is flooded with general shit, most of which is fairly industry specific (and not in my industries), with only a few cool things, whereas E3 pretty much entirely related to my field.

Eh, CES is a much older, more stable show. E3 is newer, much cooler, and definitely the best at what it does - but what it does is mostly with the video game industry. CES is more tech-related in general. Both interesting.

Well, let see if it's "cooler" even though I wouldn't buy it anyway!

I'm mostly interested in the camera/corders they announced at CES (since 2005). This years seems to be all improvement, no surprises again (13MP on 1/2.3" are you kidding?)

There were definitely plenty of great new cameras there. Nice MP indeed, but all those small compact cameras are not what I personally need as of now, ha. Same with the camcorders. Although with all the smart features they now have, it would be pretty cool just to have one of those small cameras around, ready to shoot whenever. With there was more with DSLRs and film cameras though.
