I think you've got the right idea. You need many more effects to make a good sig, though. I can recommend a few sites that are useful to learn how to make nice effects.

It's all essentially the same. Jesus Christ.
Anyway, photoshop is only the most well known, industry standard, and best image editing software out there. Also not very difficult to obtain.
It's always either photoshop or the GIMP.

MS Paint is a joke. It's not even image editing software. It's just a toy. I am fairly certain he didn't make it in MS Paint.

I like the lighting. I thing you should add a little bit of contrast and try the lighting filter, since you are using PS. Also, some color overlay layers couldnt hurt.

Let me play around with the effects and stuff first, I don't expect to make a good signature yet, I want to just test stuff and see what people like about them.
