63M Dollar Aircraft that can't Fly

Congress has spent more than $63 million on an experimental aircraft that has never flown more than a few feet and that the Pentagon has repeatedly rejected.

Designed as a plane that can take off straight up and then fly at 700 miles per hour, the craft has never attained a height of more than a few feet in prototype tests before crashing to the ground.

I did some poking around on this aircraft; it's actually a damn good concept. Designed to quickly take off straight up, it would be able to traverse battlefields and transport troops with much more efficiency. It's too bad they suck at employing concepts.

Can helicopters go from 0-700 in 6 seconds? Basically it IS a helicopter. Just an extremely good one.

instead of wasting time on this, why not make a Helicopter / Jet airplane...

just make it use thrusters to make it hover? oh and wait! Isnt that what this basically is!

Except it doesn't fly. What happened to the Osprey? Those can take off straight up and fly like airplanes.
