Changing Icon

Is there any way to change the icon of an ability while in-game?
Sort of like the way upgrades can have different icons.

Not possible. Unless you completely replace the unit/ability.

you can add the ability engineering upgrade hidden inside a dissabled spellbook. This is the only way to change the icon while also keeping things like the cooldown of the old ability. If the spell is a hero ability you will also change the icon when the hero learns the ability. this method can also be used to change tooltips.

edit: i added a simple demo map where i show what i mean. to switch between the icons simply press Esc.
