i7 core temps

I just finished building my new i7 comp and everything seems to be working fine except the core temps.

Real temp shows idle around 52 degrees and full load with prime 95 at 94 degrees per core...

This surely cant be normal, any ideas on how to keep it cooler?

I am running the stock intel cpu cooler, but even that should be cooler on idle and load.

Software like that never gets it right. A huge difference, though..
Try checking temperature in your BIOS, and see what you get.
I've got around 40 degrees Celsius (idle) and up to around 70 degress on load.

My BIOS shuts down the computer if the temperature reaches 90 degrees Celsius.

Try some different temperature monitors such as CoreTemp. See if you can find a couple that report the same temperature. I for one have experienced four different temperatures reported from four different programs at the same time with the i7, and have found nothing helpful anywhere in resolving the discrepancy. However, I have never had any program report temperatures like that even with 100% load for an extended period. Are you running at the stock speeds as well?

If you can't resolve this, then I might suggest reseating the heatsink, perhaps with some better thermal paste like Arctic Silver 5 or getting an entirely new heatsink and fan.

Stock HSF usually suck. They're meant to keep it running, not cool.

Granted, but mid-90s is getting to be actually dangerous for the CPU (when exposed to this for extended periods). I have never reached that kind of temp with the stock cooler even under load, and I have read of others who have temps even lower than mine with the stock cooler.

Bad paste, would be my guess. Or improper seating.

Sorry internet seems to go on and off...

anyways I bought some AS5 the other day, but I'm waiting till sunday to put it on (or till I get another cpu cooler). Also going to try tidy up the cables a bit to increase the airflow more.

Anyway to tell if the heatsink is improperly seated? It doesnt wobble or move at all when I try.

I have also tried speedfan that said temps where 48c idle and 85c full load.

considering getting a better cpu cooler any suggestions? because I want to overclock this once I get much better temps (at least with stock cooler first)

Also I havent overclocked or changed anything yet.

Thanks for the help so far guys :).

Glad to see everything worked out. What new HSF did you buy?

you shouldnt have gotten it boxed. boxed cooling never works as well as sepperate cooling, and is much more noisy aswell.
